Cherdonna's BIRTH-O-RAMA is coming to Re-Bar, and it's a blowout! Join Cherdonna Shinatra and three DONNA dancers for an explosive evening of dance, drama, and guileless glee. This is one wild night of fun and games where these party animals will have their cake and eat it too, because Cherdonna's signature subversion of clown, comedy, drag, and dread will bake up some candy-coated chaos.
The newest creation from the multifaceted mind of Seattle-based dance artist Jody Kuehner, Cherdonna's BIRTH-O-RAMA is a wide-eyed roller coaster ride of audience participation through Cherdonna's confetti of feelings inside the manic delight of a birthday party.
Through the traditions of feminist and queer performance art, Jody Kuehner continually sabotages gender and sexuality as a professionally-trained dance artist, director, and drag queen Cherdonna Shinatra. Kuehner is a 2017 Artist Trust Fellowship recipient, 2017 Henry Art Gallery Artist in Residence, 2017 CityArts Artist of the Year, and 2015 Stranger Genius Award winner. She was funded by the New England Foundation for the Arts' National Dance Project in 2016 and toured nationally. Kuehner served as Dayna Hanson's Production Coordinator and Assistant Director 2010-2015 for various projects, danced with Pat Graney company from 2007-2016, and assisted with Graney's KTF Prison Project. As Cherdonna, she tours with the award-winning international sensations Kitten N' Lou and is a member of The Atomic Bombshells.
Kuehner most recently premiered DITCH at the Frye Art Museum, a three-month gallery exhibition with eighty daily live performances, with her contemporary dance company DONNA, formed in 2018. Led by Jody Kuehner, DONNA features dance artists include Allison Burke, Jenna Eady, Carlin Kramer, Alyza DelPan-Monley, Julia Sloane, and Katie Wyeth. They are joined by company dramaturg Maggie Rogers, rehearsal assistant Erin McCarthy, graphic designer Greg Newcomb, sound designer Matt Starritt, and company manager Woody Shticks.
