Icicle Creek Announces YOUNG THEATER CAMP & More, Leavenworth

Icicle Creek Center for the Arts will present a wide program of educational camps, retreats, classes, intensives, and institutes this spring and summer, each designed to inspire and engage young and old arts lovers.

All programs take place in the natural beauty of the Icicle Creek campus - a mountainous wonderland, set in a wildflower meadow at the base of the surrounding magnificent mountains. All programs accept applications for scholarships.

Kicking off the summer is the Icicle Creek Summer Symphony on the Meadow, June 24 – 31, an engaging, intensive and fun week designed for young musical artists looking for symphony and ensemble experience. Conductor, educator and artist Dr. Nikolas Caoile joins Music Director Dan Jackson, Kara Hunnicutt and a host of outstanding Pacific Northwest musical coaches for this experience.

July marks the nineteenth annual Icicle Creek Chamber Music Festival & Institute, July 9 - 21. This signature program of Icicle Creek accepts outstanding young artists 18 and older who are pursuing music and interested in advancing their chamber ensemble experience, and features a faculty of world-class artists, including the artists of the Avalon String Quartet, Richard Wolfe, Liz Perry, Christina Dahl, Anthony Elliott, Jennifer Caine, and Artistic Director and pianist Oksana Ezhokina.

The Young Pianists Festival, July 26 – August 5, brings middle and high school age students together under the tutelage of exceptional faculty member Dr. Jody Graves and Oksana Ezhokina. Students balance an intensive schedule of masterclasses, private and group lessons, recitals and public concerts with great food, hiking, and outdoor fun.

Well known wildlife biologist and artist Heather Murphy leads a new program of journaling retreats called, The Art of Nature Journaling, June 17-22. Discover and nourish the life-long joy of creating an illustrated nature journal. Drawing, painting, writing and field records will unleash the intrigue of the out-of-doors. Each retreat is unique for the time of year, habitat explored and workshop classes offered. The retreat includes: all meals, lodging, art and nature instruction, birding field trips, most art supplies, and a musical concert to top it off!

The Icicle Creek Young Artist Theater Camp, in partnership with ACT- A Contemporary Theatre and their Young Playwrights Program, will be held August 5 – 12. This camp gives kids interested in acting, directing, theater craft and playwriting a chance to work with a team of extraordinary theater professionals in a supportive, open and nurturing environment. Day and overnight theater students welcome. The week of theatrical immersion culminates in the production of an original work.

Adult Pianists interested in exploring and advancing their love of the instrument while enjoying an escape from the everyday can participate in two Adult Piano Retreats: September 19-23 and October 10-14. Led by well know classical concert pianist Lisa Bergman, these Piano retreats offers private lessons, masterclasses, and concerts along with yoga, hiking and enjoyment of the serenity and beauty of the Cascades.

And finally, adult chamber musicians can join the fun at Chamber Music Madness September 27-30. This will be a weekend of adults making music with other amateur musicians while raising funds for Chamber Music Madness. Bring your ensemble or come as an individual player for an intensive experience led by Tim Betts, artistic director and violist with the Kairos Quartet.
