A fiercely talented cast of Broadway and Seattle stars start rehearsal this week for The 5th Avenue Theatre's sensational new musical Jasper in Deadland under the direction of the gifted Brandon Ivie. Starring as Jasper and his guide to the Underworld, Gretchen are The Book of Mormon's Matt Doyle and New York-based actress and musician Sydney Shepherd. Joining them on this mystical journey are Andi Alhadeff, Kyle Bernbach, Jared Michael Brown, Kyle Robert Carter, Taryn Darr, Sarah Rose Davis, Frederick Hagreen, Louis Hobson, Diana Huey, Brandi Chavonne Massey, Caety Sagoian and Evan Woltz.

Jasper in Deadland plays April 30 - May 24 (press opening May 14) at The 5th Avenue Theatre (1308 5th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98101). Tickets (starting at $29) may be purchased online at www.5thavenue.org, by phone at 206-625-1900, or at the Box Office at 1308 5th Avenue in Downtown Seattle.

"We have assembled the finest talent from Seattle to Broadway to create the weird and wild world of Deadland," said Executive Producer and Artistic Director David Armstrong. "We are bringing this sensational show to life with the full resources and support, not only of our 5th Avenue staff, but of our ever-growing New Works Program. New musicals are embedded in the DNA of The 5th, and we are excited to help Jasper continue to develop and grow. We are especially pleased to have our 5th Avenue Producing Partners Marleen and Kenny Alhadeff helping to support this production."

An electrifying new pop/rock musical in the spirit of RENT and Spring Awakening, Jasper in Deadland takes audiences on a mythological thrill-ride through the Underworld. As teenage Jasper faces gods and monsters in search of his best friend (and true love) Agnes, he learns to let go of the demons of daily life and embrace the music within. With a pulsating contemporary score and vibrant roots in ancient Greek, Egyptian, Roman, and Norse legends and fables, this spine-tingling, hair-raising, heart-stirring show explores what it means to be truly alive.
