To kick off their 2016 season, Forward Flux Productions will present a reading of
Lauren Yee's existential slasher comedy, "Hookman" at the XII Flux Salon gathering in Seattle. The San Francisco Chronicle said "Hookman" is "Yee's funniest and, in some respects, most intriguing play since her breakthrough, 'Ching Chong Chinaman'. ... Beneath all the laughs is a yearning quest for connection and self-definition, struggling to break through the distractions of youth and digital immersion." In addition to the reading, visual art will be on display from local artist
Barry Johnson, and there will be a mini-concert featuring songs from Byron Au Yong's musical, "Stuck Elevator"; both artists will be joining the Salon in person. When "Stuck Elevator" had its' world premiere at
American Conservatory Theater, the San Francisco Chronicle said it is, "a vibrant opera-musical theater hybrid with a story both personally compelling and eye-opening." The Flux Salon presents new works by fresh voices in intimate spaces throughout Seattle. The Salon is March 14th & 15th at 7:00pm, and will be held at Cafe Nordo in Pioneer Square.
About "Hookman": College is hard when your roommate is weird, you're feeling homesick, and a hook-handed serial killer is slashing girls' throats.
The reading will be presented by Chelsea DuVall, Jessi Little, Corinne Magin, Tori Nelson, Varsha Raghavan and Adam St. John. The concert will feature local musicians and additional performers including Ben Gonio and Nate Omdal. It will be directed by Wesley Frugé and Rachel Delmar.
Tickets are available by visiting www.ForwardFlux.com. Subsidized ticket options start at just $5, and VIP options including food and drinks from Cafe Nordo are also available.
