Sound Theatre Company launches its seventh season with a seldom-performed pair of works by Tom Stoppard, Dogg's Hamlet, Cahoot's Macbeth. Stoppard's smart, witty and gleeful word-play combines a thought experiment from Ludwig Wittgenstein with repression of art in the Soviet Eastern bloc to illuminate the power that language has in our world.
The author of "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" once again uses the Bard's classics to explore the nature of language, censorship and the importance of free expression. In Dogg's Hamlet, English schoolboys who speak the mixed-up language of "Dogg" - a language comprised of English words but with different meanings - encounter a befuddlEd English-speaking delivery man as they prepare for their school production of Hamlet. In Cahoot's Macbeth, renegade actors in cold-war Czechoslovakia continue their private performance of Macbeth under the eyes of a police inspector who suspects them of subversion against the state.
The plays are performed together, and are appropriate for all audiences.
Dogg's Hamlet, Cahoot's Macbeth opens on June 8 for a limited run at the Center Theatre at the Seattle Center Armory, 305 Harrison St. The cast features several returning artists to Sound Theatre Company, including Matt Fulbright, Elinor Gunnand Gianni Truzzi (The Illusion), Fox Rain Matthews (Disco Pigs), Luke S. Walker(The Compleat Works of Shakespeare, Abridged), and Martyn G. Krouse (The Foreigner). Sound Theatre Company also welcomes several accomplished newcomers to its company, including Noah Duffy (The Seagull Project), Corey Spruill(Theater Schmeater's A Behanding in Spokane), Caitlin Frances and Lisa Viertel(Balagan's August, Osage County), Robert Hinds and Julie Hoang.
Dogg's Hamlet, Cahoot's Macbeth is directed by Sound Theatre Company's Producing Artistic Director, Teresa Thuman.
