Cornish College of the Arts Theater and Performance Production departments present Bat Boy: The Musical, April 10 through 13, at The Playhouse at Seattle Center. The run of the play includes a fundraiser for the Cornish Scholarship Fund, Bat Boy: Backstage Benefit, on April 10.

Tickets are $ 15 general admission, $5 seniors (62+); students; Cornish alum, faculty and staff, and are available online at Brown Paper Tickets and by phone at 1.800.838.3006. Limited Teen Tix are available for members online and at the door, subject to availability.

Bat Boy: Backstage Benefit, on April 10 at 6:30 pm, includes a pre-show reception with the artistic team and special seating. All proceeds support the Cornish Scholarship Fund. Tickets are $150 and $250, at Brown Paper Tickets, http://backstagebenefit.brownpapertickets.com

A talented group of Cornish students - on and offstage - are supported by a group of Seattle's finest theatrical professionals in staging the classic Weekly World News' story about a half boy/half bat creature discovered in a cave near Hope Falls, West Virginia.

"Bat Boy's potent mix of satire, social conscience and heart makes it a perfect match for the Cornish mission to facilitate our students' education as artists, citizens and innovators," said Richard E.T. White, theater department chair. "It allows our performers to stretch themselves in transformational character work while providing a visual scope that is a terrific challenge for the Performance Production designers given the possibilities in The Playhouse."

Talkin'Broadway.com called the show "a bravura piece of remarkable foolery. The fast paced musical is jam-packed with good songs, palpitating rhythms and campy dialogue."

Bat Boy: The Musical was recognized as the best Off-Broadway musical with the Lucille Lortel Award, two Richard Rodgers Awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the Outer Critics Circle Award in 2001.

Bat Boy: The Musical is directed and choreographed by Kathryn Van meter. This marks Kathryn's third collaboration with Cornish having previously choreographed Urinetown and co-directed and choreographed last year's The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Her work has been seen around town including Village Theatre, 5th Avenue Musical Theatre, ACT, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Seattle Children's Theatre, Teatro Zinzanni and Seattle Men's Chorus. Kathryn spent six months teaching theatre and dance to a community in South Africa through ASTEP (Artists Striving to End Poverty), an organization dedicated to empowering under-privileged children through the arts. This summer Kathryn will be playing Gwen in ACT's production of Rapture, Blister, Burn and will be choreographing Xanadu, a co-production with Village Theatre and Arizona Theatre Company. She is also member of The Sandbox Artist's Collective.

The cast includes Chelsea Callahan, Amanda René Clanton, Andrew Lee Creech, Michael Eber, Rachael Fales, Jade Gregg, AnnaMarie Harris, Drew Highlands, Signe Larsen, AnnieRose Kafer, Victor Matlock, Katherine Oberg, Joshua Valencia, and Benjamin Wippel.

Musical direction is by Katherine Strohmaier, and the band includes, Orlando Morales (keyboard), Griffin Boyd (guitar), Zac Stowell (drums) and Olivia Hamilton (bass.)
