Theatre Puget Sound (TPS) and the Gregory Awards announced today that Broadway's Don Darryl Rivera will host the 10th Annual Gregory Awards, live at Marion Oliver McCaw Hall at the Seattle Center on Monday, October 22 (7:30pm). This will be Rivera's first time hosting the Gregory Awards, though he has been nominated three times since 2009, most recently receiving Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Musical in last year's ceremony.

Don Darryl Rivera is a theatre artist, originally from Seattle, WA. He garnered three Gregory Award Nominations: 2009 - RECIPIENT, Person to Watch; 2013 - NOMINEE, Supporting Actor (Illyria, Taproot Theatre); 2017 - RECIPIENT, Supporting Actor (Man of LaMancha, 5th Avenue Theater) Don Darryl has worked around the U.S. at some of the country's most prestigious theatres including: The Guthrie Theater, The 5th Avenue Theatre, Seattle Children's Theatre, The Children's Theatre Company, and The Shakespeare Theatre Company. Don Darryl currently plays the dastardly Iago in Disney's Aladdin on Broadway. As a playwright: in 2011, Don Darryl wrote the book for the world premiere musical based on the beloved children's book Harold and the Purple Crayon along with Auston James (Music) and Rob Burgess (Lyrics). Harold received two 2011 Seattle Times Footlight Awards for Best Actor in a Musical and Top for Tots. In 2013 Don Darryl collaborated as a Co-Composer with Rob Burgess and Co-Book writer with Linda Hartzell on the world premiere musical based on the books by Eric Hill Adventures With Spot.
Theatre Puget Sound's 9th Annual Gregory Awards will be presented on Monday, October 23rd (7:30pm) at Marion Oliver McCaw Hall in Seattle, WA. The Gregory Awards, which honors theatre artists in the Seattle area for distinguished theatrical achievements, and are recognized as the most significant theatre awards in the Northwestern United States.
The official eligibility cut-off date was Wednesday, August 1, 2018 for all Seattle-area productions opening in the 2017-2018 season. Productions which meet all other eligibility requirements and open on or before the eligibility date are considered eligible for 2018 Gregory Award nominations.
The Nominations for the 2018 Gregory Awards will be announced starting Monday, August 20th through Friday August 24th.
This is the last year in which acting categories will be separated by gender. Starting in 2019, acting categories will be genderless in order to be more inclusive, with two recipients being chosen from each category (i.e. Supporting Actor in a Musical, Leading Actor in a Play, etc.)
TPS is a non-profit theatre resource organization, with a membership of nearly 1,500 each year, that supports both individual and organizational theatre of all sizes throughout the Puget Sound region.
