Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Wesley Schulz have announced the 2017 - 2018 Season, their annual four-concert classical series featuring a star-studded cast of guest performers, masterworks, beloved favorites, original compositions, and special collaborations held at Bainbridge Performing Arts.
Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra kicks off its season in November with "Mozart and Sibelius" - a program featuring Missy Mazzoli's River Rouge Transfiguration as well as pianist Oksana Ejokina in a performance of Mozart's brilliant Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor, and works from the sonic world of Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius.
The February program showcases César Franck's most enduring work for orchestra, Symphony in D minor, plus composer Bright Sheng's moving and beautifully haunting BLACK SWAN, an orchestration of Brahms's Intermezzo in A major, Op. 118, No. 2. Also on the program is bass trombonist David Krosschell, who will perform Eric Ewazen's riveting Concerto for Bass Trombone and Orchestra.
The April program is sure to entice the entire family! Listeners will hear their favorite music from the original Batman, Superman, and even John Williams' original scoring for Star Wars: The Force Awakens! The Bainbridge Island Youth Orchestra will be featured in a side-by-side performance with the Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra and the winner of the BSO's ever-popular Young Artist Competition will perform.
In June, local violin virtuoso Rachell Wong will perform Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1. This titanic concerto will entrance audience members with its sensitive and probing musical lines. Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony erupts with a fanfare for brass that is moody like Shostakovich's concerto. As the symphony unfolds, however, gaiety and excitement hold court. Perhaps his most famous symphony, Tchaikovsky's spectacular Fourth will end BSO's 2017-2018 Season with a flourish.
Don't miss a minute of Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra's 2017 - 2018 Season - four rousing concerts for music lovers of all ages on November 11 & 12, 2017, February 17 & 18, 2018, April 14 & 15, 2018, and
June 1 & 3, 2018.

Join us as we bring the orchestra's monumental 2016 - 2017 Season to a peaceful and stunning conclusion on June 2 & 4, 2017. Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra's final concert this season turns to celebrated American composers including John Williams and Aaron Copland. John Williams' music for the Spielberg-directed film Lincoln reveres and mourns the late president. Copland explores socio-economic variability in his opera, The Tender Land. Although the opera itself was not successful, this suite of extracted music has moved audiences with its beautiful melodies and nostalgic overtones. This program also showcases Charlotte Marckx, the 2017 winner of the BSO's annual Young Artist Concerto Competition in a performance of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto.
