Join us in November for BPA Theatre School's 2014 Fall Showcase, a family-friendly event showcasing talented students in 3rd - 7th grade. Happy to oversee showcase development from inception to the stage, BPA Director of Education Zandi Carlson is both proud of the students' accomplishments and grateful to be a part of their journey, saying, "From the deep sea to the deep south, we've discovered magic, mystery, and what it means to be a friend."
Performances open with the world premiere of A Tale of Two Seas by Victoria Whitlow Tuttle. A group of young fish venture into the unknown on a dare only to find an entirely new "seadom" that has been hidden from them all these years. Much like their own home, it is masked in sadness, and the youthful adventurers must find a way to unite the two worlds and bring happiness back to the sea. Director Julia Beers is joined by Assistant Director by D'Arcy Clements to lead a super-charged cast of 3rd - 5th graders in this enchanting tale.
Next up is Puttin' on the Ritz sung by Rufus Wainwright, choreographed by Zandi Carlson, and featuring performers from BPA Theatre School's Theatre Dance program.
Concluding the show is Marvelous by Holly Arsenault, based on "The Snow Queen" by Hans Christian Andersen. Marvelous follows Gertie, a young girl both loving and heroic, who runs away from a circus in the Deep South to search for her best friend Kai. With her faithful companion Sal the educated pig, and help from Goleta the Snake Charmer and the wild Robber Child, she sets out on a quest to rescue Kai from the clutches of the mysterious Snow Queen. Director Zandi Carlson is supported by Assistant Director Dylan Lehotsky, and together they venture south, leading a talented cast of 5th - 7th graders. Playwright Holly Arsenault won the 2013 Gregory Award for Outstanding New Play for Marvelous.
