Presented to a young adult under the age of 35, who is or has been an island resident, the Amy Award annually recognizes those who have compiled a body of work in the visual or performing arts, and whose work demonstrates a sense of quality, creativity, exploration and dedication. In recognition of her award-winning original work, dedication, and potential, Bainbridge Performing Arts has named Keiko Green the recipient of the 2018 Amy Award for Emerging Artists. Keiko will be honored at an event at BPA later this spring.
Keiko Green is a Bainbridge Island-based playwright and performer. She was a 2016 Core Acting Company Member of ACT Theatre and a member of the Seattle Repertory Theatre's 2015 - 2017 Resident Writers' Group.
Keiko's original work focuses on marginalized voices, specifically changing the narrative to centralize characters that are usually plot devices. In 2017, her play Nadeshiko won the Gregory Award for Outstanding New Play, as well as landing on the Honorable Mentions for the national Kilroys List, which lists the top underproduced plays written by women. She is a Finalist for both the 2018 - 2019 Many Voices and Jerome Fellowships at the Playwrights Center in Minneapolis, as well as a Semi-Finalist for the Bay Area Playwrights Foundation for her play Ballad of the White Tiger. Keiko has also had several world premieres at Seattle's beloved Annex Theatre, among other venues, like Island Theater's Ten-Minute Play Festival and NW Actors Lab's One Act Festival on Bainbridge Island.
As an actress, notable work includes the world premiere of Lauren Yee's The Great Leap (Seattle Repertory Theatre/Denver Center for the Performing Arts); Stupid F#$%ing Bird, Dangerous Liaisons, A Christmas Carol, Bad Apples (ACT); The Comparables (Seattle Repertory Theatre); A Midsummer Night's Dream, Bring Down the House Pts. I & II, Othello, Love's Labours Lost, and Much Ado About Nothing (Seattle Shakespeare Co/Wooden O); Water by the Spoonful (Theatre22); Amadeus (Seattle Public Theatre). She won the 2016 Gregory Award's People's Choice Award for her work as a Supporting Actress in Water by the Spoonful. She launched her career in the area with the Bainbridge Performing Arts production of Private Eyes, for which she was named "Outstanding Actress" by the Kitsap Sun.
Keiko is currently working on two commissions for theatre scripts, several screenplays, and she is in the process of developing the web series Maids. Visit Keiko online at www.keikogreen.com.
