As If Theatre Company has announced the second annual festival of short plays, The Kenmore Quickies - Tall Tales; eight prompted short plays written, directed, and performed by local theatre artists. Each year, eight local playwrights are given a specific prompt from which to write a ten-minute play in a four-week timeframe.

The festival will be a weekend of performances of all of the plays, with a winning play chosen by the audience after the final performance. This year the prompts are pulled from historic stories about the city of Kenmore and playwrights are tasked with weaving their assigned bit of history into a "tall tale." Prompts, playwrights, directors, and actors were assigned at random at the June 3 kick-off event, and playwrights have until July 8 to complete their short scripts following specific parameters, including using only props from a provided list.

"By partnering with the Kenmore Heritage Society, we were able to discover interesting and odd pieces of Kenmore's history to act as our prompts," says Cindy Giese French, As If Theatre Company's Artistic Director and Kenmore resident. "We love the idea of inviting our fantastic playwrights to push and pull these stories into tall tales, something a little wild, really fun, and completely entertaining."

Playwrights for this year's Quickies are Simon Astor, Suzanne Bailie, Roz Cornejo, John C. Davenport, Caitlin Gilman, Thomas Pierce, Curtis Rawls, and Scott Stolnack. Directors for each play are Megan Brotherton, Jack S. Conley, David Dorrian, Keith Gehrig, Heidi Jensen, Carissa Smit, Mark Velednitsky, and Yvonne Williams.

The actors, each appearing in two plays, are Kristin Alexander, Jana Blumberg, Terry Boyd, Dawn Cornell, Tina Devrin, Kerry Jacinto, Diane Jamieson, Guneet Kaur, Ali Kidder-Mostrom, Elizabeth Ogle, Shaylyn Reed, McKenzie Wilson, Jay Vilhauer, and Swarnim Vyas.

The 4 performances are August 12-14 at the Kenmore Community Club. The winner of the Audience Favorite Award will be announced after the Sunday performance.
