Arthur Miller's THE PRICE Returns to ACT, 5/30 - 6/22

Two estranged brothers who haven't spoke in sixteen years are forced to come together to settle their late father's estate. In the attic of a New York brownstone scheduled for demolition, two men whose lives have taken different paths attempt to resolve their father's holdings and reconcile a past rife with conflicting family histories. Nominated for two Tony Awards including Best Play, The Price is one of Arthur Miller's masterpieces examining the worth of family loyalty in a powder keg of resentment and animosity.

"ACT is a contemporary theatre that since its founding has committed to looking back at the masters like Arthur Miller," says ACT artistic director Kurt Beattie. "The Price is one of his works that addresses universal themes all humans must face, in which Miller's specialty comes through: family rivalry, reflection, regret, and confrontation."

The Price is directed by Victor Pappas (Other Desert Cities, Old Times, Mary Stuart) and features some of Seattle's top talent included Charles Leggett as Victor, the cop who gave up his dreams to take care of their father; Anne Allgood as Victor's wife, eager for them to start over when he retires from the force, and Peter Lohnes as Walter - the brother who left and made a successful life and career for himself. Actor Peter Silbert, last seen at ACT in its 2000 production of The Odd Couple, returns to Seattle in the role of Solomon, the mysterious antique dealer who must wade through the family possessions and determine what has value.

The Price is set in 1968. It opened on Broadway in the same year, has been revived three times on Broadway since the original production, and adapted for television.

According to the New York Times, "The Price is one of the most engrossing and entertaining plays that Arthur Miller has ever written."

The cast includes Anne Allgood* as Esther Franz, Charles Leggett* as Victor Franz, Peter Lohnes* as Walter Franz, and Peter Silbert* as Gregory Soloman. Direction is by Victor Pappas, set design by Robert Dahlstrom, costume design by Rose Pederson, lighting design by Alex Berry, sound design by Brendan Patrick Hogan, and stage management by JR Welden*.
