After five years and three productions the action packed Super Hero saga that is Team of Heroes comes to a dark and satisfying conclusion in Team of Heroes: No More Heroes.
Part three returns to the present, chronologically following on the action of Alecto Issue #1, and finds our Heroes scattered, disempowered, and with public opinion very much against them. Some of the Heroes search for answers, others seek revenge, and most have love stories to continue, begin, or reignite.
No More Heroes is a grittier take on the superhero genre than the previous two episodes. Without abandoning its signature humor, the story goes beyond the classic themes of hero versus villain to explore the dark underbelly of what it takes to create super-powered humans in a morally ambiguous world.
While the three parts of this trilogy are related, sharing a world and characters, each installment tells a story that requires no knowledge of the other two to follow and enjoy. Audiences new to Team of Heroes will revel in the revealed secrets and splashy special effects of this last installment just as much as fans who've been following the team from their first face-off with Chaos Theory.
Like Alecto Issue #1, and Behind Closed Doors, No More Heroes brings back many of the features that delighted audiences and critics in the first two installments: Tight spandex, media satire, and big special effects created with very little budgets. No More Heroes embraces Annex's mission of Big Cheap Theater, using plenty of simple theater magic to bring helicopter rides, car chases, epic battles, and four international locations to the stage.
Once again written by Alexander Harris and directed by Jaime Roberts, No More Heroes includes four cast members reprising their roles from both previous installments: Jason Sharp as The Cap'n, Tracy Leigh as Madame Mayhem, Nik Doner as Shockwave, and Rachel Jackson as Chaos Theory. Sam Hagen also reprises his role from No More Heroes. Joining the Heroes for the very first time are Libby Barnard, Curtis Eastwood, and Alyssa Keene, the third actress to take on manipulative team administrator Melody Knox.
In addition to the writer, director, and cast, all but one member of the design and production team has worked on one or both previous installments. Michael White Hayes has served as Sound Designer for the entire trilogy, and won the 2012 Gypsy Rose Lee award for Sound Design (Small Budget) for Behind Closed Doors.
Annex Theatre is a democratic collective of theatre artists dedicated to creating bold new work in an environment of improbability, resourcefulness and risk. Annex Theatre produces new plays by living playwrights, radical reinterpretations of classic scripts, and ensemble-generated non-linear spectacles. Now in its new Capitol Hill venue, Annex originally opened its doors in 1987 in a former dance studio on 4th Avenue in downtown Seattle. Since then the theater has produced hundreds of world and Northwest premieres.
