18th & Union is pleased to announce a baker's half-dozen of portable performances to welcome the New Year. Continuing with our mission to introduce audiences to artistic adventures, our Winter series has been curated by local artists Andrew Lee Creech and Keira McDonald.

Asked about their curatorial philosophy, Keira and Andrew said, "Imagine that we acted like King Moon Razor who rules the Island of Misfit Toys and we flew around Seattle looking for oddballs or what some might declare 'other'. We collected these unique artists and programmed a sizzling two months at 18th & Union that will tickle your senses and spark your imagination."

See the full schedule below:

Opening Friday, January 20

Happy Hour

Written and performed by Keira McDonald and Erin Stewart

An hour full of straight up comedy cocktails, musical parody appetizers, and a bowl full of mixed character nuts to prepare you for 2017.

Fridays at 7:30, January 20 - February 24

Opening Saturday, January 21

Oroboro

Written and directed by K. Brian Neel

Oroboro is a comedy with loops. Made up of scenes that swirl and wrap around each other, Oroboro is brainy and physical, a psychedelic fractal of a show. Go on an infinite first date. Meet a literally soul-eating middle manager. Listen in on a phone call to the patron saint of his own lost cause. And become an imaginary friend. Oroboro is madcap comedy meets conceptual theatre. Alice in Wonderland meets Franz Kafka.

Saturdays at 7:30pm, January 21 - February 11

Opening Monday, January 23

Animals Attack!

Written and performed by Scot Augustson, Kelleen Conway Blanchard, and Jennifer Jasper, discover why animals attack! Learn how much deadly force is behind a crocodile bite. (Quite a lot actually. More than you think. Yes. More than that even. Crocodiles are horrifying!) What does it feel like to be swarmed by fire ants? How many venomous spiny fish do you need to step on to lose all of your toes?

Learn all of this and more as notable local playwrights Scot Augustson, Kelleen Conway Blanchard, and Jennifer Jasper recount several almost true accounts of Animals on the Attack!

Mondays at 8:00pm, January 23 - February 13

One performance only, January 27

Caught One-Handed

Written and performed by Noah Duffy

Come home with Noah--a confused kid with sticky fingers who's caught between a cross and hard place. When his parents put him in conversion therapy at eleven to "straighten him out," it's all he can do to survive while his sin-riddled hormones, Christian calling, and dubious dad duke it out. Gleefully skipping through fire and brimstone, this shockingly true solo show tickles plenty of funny bones while serving as a catalyst for discussing sexuality, delusion, and endurance.

Friday at 9:30pm, January 27

Opening Friday, February 3

Shlong Song

Written and performed by Woody Shticks (Noah Duffy)

Stand-up storytelling, hip hop heroics, and emotional nudity collide in Shlong Song, a brand-new solo extravaganza by Woody Shticks (one third of interarts gang The Libertinis and one whole bag of fun). Join Woody for an onslaught of hanky-panky hijinks from his days inside a Puritan cult to his nights inside consenting adults for an enlightening evening of the ins and outs of sexual misadventure.

Fridays at 9:30pm, February 3 - 24

Opening Sunday, February 5

Raisins in a Glass of Milk

Performed by Maya Burton and Lexi Chipman

Raisins in a Glass of Milk is a one-act play that brings the hilarious, heart-breaking, and shocking stories and experiences of actors of color from across the country out of the darkness and into the spotlight. Through this collection of scenes and monologues, the Raisins ensemble aims to show that People of Color should finally be seen as a standard, essential part of storytelling as opposed to stereotypes, controversies, and out-of-date statements.

Sundays at 7:30pm, February 6 - 26

Opening Thursday, February 16

Discrete Packets of Song

Created and performed by Aaron J. Shay

Known for his witty lyrics and his use of sci-fi and apocalyptic imagery, Aaron ?uses this performance to explore the question of why we attend concerts, and what singer-songwriters offer their audiences that can be found nowhere else. Expect some ?stomping, clapping, and sing-alongs!
