Tom has done Live at The Apollo, QI, Roast Battle & The Stand-Up Sketch Show. But all of that means nothing now as he is doing a new show and new shows generally take a long time to not be crap. So, expect desperate floundering attempts to get your laughs, charm levels cranked up to the max to compensate for content, and some ill-judged material as he tries to work out what the hell people want from him.
Why ‘Burner’? Because Tom has never owned a smartphone. This causes great surprise to most people, who ask such questions as “How do you even live?”, “How do you find love? Or even where you’re going?” and “God that’s so interesting, why don’t you do a show about it?” He has a girlfriend from the outside world, gets lost frequently and now is, are the answers to those.
The show looks at why Tom uses his silly little phone and at our relationship to technology, what we sacrifice in the name of progress and how in many ways we are sold back the very thing we handed over to the multinationals in the first place. Nothing he says will probably change your mind about your smartphone, because they’re quite addictive, apparently.
