"Naked In Alaska- The True Story of Stripping in the Last Frontier" will play the Assembly Roxy, 1 Aug- 25 August 2014 as part of the Assembly Festival.
Two girls escape California to work at a strip club in the Alaskan wilderness. An adventure that begins in innocence lures them into a 10-year career that tests the limits of friendship and the will to survive.
Naked in Alaska: The True Story of Stripping in the Last Frontier is the hit American solo play written and performed by
Valerie Hager. The play is based on Hager's own life experiences as an exotic dancer shimmying her way across various cities from Mexico to the far reaches of Alaska.
Directed by Scott Wesley Slavin, Naked In Alaska follows the gripping adventures of the struggling young Hager who dreams of life on the stage but who, instead, spends a decade entangled in the seedy world of stripping. The play, which makes its UK debut at Assembly Roxy at this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe, is unapologetic, poignant, funny, and very real.
Best Solo Show Award, The New York International Fringe Festival. Audience Favorite Award, Chicago Fringe Festival.
Told with live pole dancing and over a dozen characters, all played by Hager-such as her fire-hot best friend and rival Raven, who's considered top girl at all the clubs, and Charlie, a loud mouthed and self-asserting dancer with a secret addiction-the play is raw and honest in showing Hager's journey of discovery that the road she is travelling is paved with addiction and abuse and the only solace to be found is in the companionship of her fellow co-workers.
Naked in Alaska takes a fearless look at the objects we make of ourselves to fit in and the buried truths we must face to have a chance of coming home.
