Tron Theatre Company is working with Sherman Theatre, Cardiff to present the first out-of-London production of Stephen Adly Guirgis's The Motherf**ker with the Hat. After a run at Tron Theatre (1st - 17th March), the production will be presented at Sherman Theatre from 21st - 31st March. The fast-moving, foul-mouthed play was Guirgis's Broadway debut in 2011 and this will be the production's Scottish and Welsh premiere.
It's New York and Jackie's in trouble. An ex-con struggling with addiction, he's trying to go straight and get back with childhood sweetheart Veronica, but can he trust her? His sponsor, the outwardly pious and clean-living Ralph D. isn't all he seems and Cousin Julio really doesn't like him very much. Can Jackie keep it together or is he on a path to self-destruct?
Guirgis has been described as a prolific chronicler of marginal lives, with his stage plays garnering multiple awards: The Motherf**ker with the Hat received six Tony Award nominations. A stellar cast, including Francois Pandolfo as Jackie, Jermaine Dominique as his squeaky-clean sponsor Ralph D., Alexandria Riley as Veronica and Renee Williams as Victoria spar verbally and physically in high-octane exchanges, with 'mediation' of sorts from Kyle Lima as Cousin Julio. Kenny Miller will create their seedy New York setting, with Simon Hayes lighting and Sam Jones providing the soundscape.
Running time: approx. 90 mins (no interval).
