The Traverse Theatre is delighted to announce that award winning playwright Rob Drummond has accepted the honorary post of Traverse Associate Artist. Rob joins the company's esteemed cohort of Associate Artists - a group of writers and directors who work closely with the theatre, sharing and supporting its commitment to new writing and talent development. This follows last August's announcement of Stef Smith as a Traverse Associate Artist.
Rob has a long and successful relationship with the Traverse. His 2012 work Bullet Catch was part of the Traverse's curated Festival programme and was a hit with audience's as well as receiving critical acclaim and numerous awards. He went on in 2013 to his first full Traverse Theatre production Quiz Show which was wildly praised by critics and went on to win a CATS Award.
Rob Dummond commented: "When I was at University I dreamed of one day just being commissioned by the Traverse, but even that felt far-fetched, so to be asked to become an associate artist at the place is a surreal thrill."
Orla O'Loughlin, Traverse Theatre Artistic Director commented: "Rob Drummond has swiftly emerged as a significant artist. Following the success of Bullet Catch and Quiz Show at the Traverse and as part of our deep commitment to Nurturing, celebrating and providing a powerful springboard for home-grown talent, he is a natural artist to formally welcome to the team. Rob's ambition, spirit of enquiry and sheer creativity chime perfectly with the Traverse mission to make and present the most exciting contemporary drama both at home and internationally. We are delighted he is joining our family of Associate Artists, and look forward to continuing our work with him on a number of thrilling projects."
Two of Rob's plays, Mr Write (National Theatre of Scotland) and Quiz Show (Traverse Theatre Company), have won CATS awards and his Fringe sensation Bullet Catch (The Arches) also took a Total Theatre Award and A Herald Angel when it featured in the Traverse's Festival 2012 programme.
