THE SHOW MUST GO ON! The New Theatre of Ottawa is leaving its original venue at C Venues C Nova Studio 2 and transferring to C Venues C Too (Venue 4), due to ongoing noise disturbances from a nearby bar, The Liquid Room. In the first days of the festival, the show was compromised by sounds of a new deck being built, right outside the studio. Then the first Sunday evening show had to be canceled because of the bar's launch party that took place on the deck.
"The music was so loud that we couldn't actually hear the actor [David Warburton, RSC] from the third row back," says show director John Koensgen. "And this is not someone who has trouble with projecting his voice!"
Unfortunately, the noise from next door continued to prove disruptive to the performance, though the company continued to perform the show, regardless, while C Venues worked hard to find another space suitable for the production.
From tonight until 25th August, The Player's Advice to Shakespeare will be playing at the same time 19:15 at C Venues C Too (Venue 4), an atmospheric and intimate church space, which should prove an stimulating setting for this critically-acclaimed production.
In 1607, an actor from Shakespeare's company turns his back on the stage and joins the Midlands Revolt. Mishaps, adventures, and a bloody defeat later, he returns to London to urge Shakespeare to tell the story. Will the Bard listen? Will his new play speak to this turmoil? Find out!
More than just a rollicking tale, this is an impassioned plea for theatre with a sharp point. After wowing Canadian audiences with this politically-charged solo performance, the New Theatre of Ottawa now brings The Player's Advice to Shakespeare - winner of four Prix Rideau Awards including Outstanding Direction for John Koensgen and Outstanding New Creation for Brian K Stewart - to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for its UK premiere.
