For the first time ever Peter Pan will be flying into the King's Theatre to celebrate 50 years since the very first pantomime was staged at the historic Glasgow venue.
With breath-taking special effects - including a flying sequence - spectacular sets, dazzling costumes, and more than a sprinkle of fairy dust, Peter Pan is set to captivate audiences of all ages. Get hooked and booked from Friday 6th December 2013.
James Haworth, General Manager at the King's Theatre Glasgow, said: "This is a significant milestone for the King's and to celebrate we're excited to be welcoming a pantomime never before seen at the King's. I've no doubt Peter Pan will be the high quality, laugh out loud, fun-filled family production that people expect from the King's."
The King's panto magic started in 1964 when the Scottish production A Wish for Jamie, starring Johnny Beattie, Bobby Dennis, Faye Lenore and Kenneth McKellor, set the scene for what was to become the traditional King's panto.
Many Scottish greats became panto regulars with headline stars including Stanley Baxter, Rikki Fulton and Jimmy Logan. Gerard Kelly became synonymous with the King's with a panto presence spanning 20 years - he debuted in 1989's Mother Goose, appearing in a total of 15 productions, with his last as Wishee Washee in Aladdin 2009/2010. Gerard, with his famous boots and fuzzy black hair, made the role of the loveable rogue his own.
The King's broke the mould when a woman, Elaine C. Smith, starred several times as the pantomime dame. In recent years comedy favourites Karen Dunbar and Gavin Mitchell have continued the family fun making the King's panto one of the best Christmas shows in the UK.
As the curtain opens on Aladdin, we can only surmise who will be starring as the mischievous Peter Pan, his arch nemesis Captain Hook, or joining the motley pirate crew. Cast to be announced soon.
Peter Pan goes on General Sale at 10am on Friday 6th December.
