Medea On The Mic runs at Oran Mor until 15 June
Medea on the Mic is written by Nazli Tabatabai-Khatambakhsh and directed by Philip Howard.
Hannah Jarrett-Scott stars as Medea in this modern, Scottish feminist retelling of the Greek tragedy. Medea takes centre stage as she recounts her version of events while on-air on a radio station. Speaking directly to the radio audience she describes meeting Jason, having his children and the murder and deception that took place afterwards. Between Jarrett-Scott's performance and Tabatabai-Khatambakhsh's script, its impossible to be anything other than captivated by this play.
Reuben Joseph is a swaggering, cocky Jason. He won the heart of Medea and is extremely bitter about how things turned out between them. He gets to have his say but this is very much Medea's story. Clad in sequins and delightfully dramatic Marc Mackinnon brings a bit of pizazz to the role of Chariot Queen. They've really knocked it out of the park with the casting for this particular play.
This is definitely not the Medea story that you know and it's a fresh and funny take with some truly outstanding performances.
