CultureClash Theatre's acclaimed production of Cassiah Joski-Jethi's UNDER MY THUMB has opened to fantastic audience reception at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with several performances already selling out. Relocating after runs at Greenwich Theatre, Brighton Fringe and Incoming Festival to Assembly's newest venue, the dark, subterranean, immersive Snug Bar, the story of five women incarcerated for alleged crimes against society seems to have found its perfect home.

Imprisoned indefinitely for speaking out against inequality or abuse, the five women can only ever reclaim their freedom if they subjugate themselves to the status quo, accepting that whatever inequality they experienced was entirely appropriate or was caused by them. Lord Of The Flies meets The Handmaid's Tale in this dark female thriller, with a sixth woman entering the prison to stir things up. Is she just another woman brought down by the society outside, or is she more than she seems?

UNDER MY THUMB is the latest collaboration between emerging theatre company CultureClash Theatre and London powerhouse Greenwich Theatre, and is just one of ten shows supported by the venue at this year's Fringe.

UNDER MY THUMB runs until 20 August at Assembly Snug Bar at 4.10pm daily (not 14th). www.assemblyfestival.com
