Full casting announced for the world premiere of Robert J. Sherman's brand new musical at this year's Edinburgh Fringe.
The age of vaudeville. A quartet of penguins and a trio of parrots sing and dance, dazzling and delighting their audiences, night after night in this one of a kind, all avian revue. But when the show's temperamental cracker-crazed macaw star mysteriously goes missing, it threatens to close down the show for good. Robert J. Sherman's new musical follows closely in his father and uncle's (the Sherman Brothers') Oscar-winning footsteps (Mary Poppins). Fantastic, feathery, fun featuring a cast of 9 performers and 3 musicians.
Robert J. Sherman comes from an illustrious line of songwriters spanning more than four generations. At 16 he became one of the youngest songwriters ever invited to join Broadcast Music Incorporated and is an alum of their Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop. At 18 he wrote songs for the musical, A Christmas Held
Captive (Beverly Hills Playhouse). Current projects include Inkas the Ramferinkas (an animation musical film)
and Bumblescratch the Musical (workshop). In 2014 Sherman narrated and produced A Spoonful of Sherman (St.
James Theatre). The London cast album is officially being released by SimG Records on Monday, 13 July (the first day of rehearsals for Love Birds) with a forthcoming UK tour planned for 2016. He says: 'My father and uncle spent their lives working in film and musical theatre and I am proud to follow in their footsteps. This new show is a completely joyous, fantastical piece about birds singing and dancing in a Vaudeville show. This is the musical I've always wanted to write and the Edinburgh Festival, with its eclectic, diverse programme seems the perfect place to give this dream of mine wings.'
