Following its critically acclaimed Glasgow debut, LORD OF THE FLIES embarks on a UK tour and returns to the Theatre Royal Glasgow on Wednesday 11 June for four days only.
In 2011 a concept driven by Glasgow's ATG Creative Learning team led to the spectacular adaptation of William Golding's classic novel, starring 15 local lads from schools across West Dunbartonshire. The boys, with little or no dance experience, were picked from over 100 taking part in movement workshops. They proved to award winning choreographers Matthew Bourne and Scott Ambler that they could master the detailed routines and perform alongside professional dancers.
LORD OF THE FLIES will now travel to 13 cities across the UK and engage with young talent from each region. Glasgow workshops are underway and the boys will be selected a month before LORD OF THE FLIES returns to the Theatre Royal on Wednesday 11 June, running until Saturday 14 June.

MATTHEW BOURNE said: "Lord of the Flies is a project never before mounted on this large-scale. This unique collaboration between my production company, New Adventures, and charity, Re:Bourne, will enable thousands of young people and their families across the country to experience dance at close hand, and for many, for the very first time. I am delighted also to welcome Layton and Jack to the New Adventures family. They will be joining an outstanding group of dancers from the New Adventures company who will inspire and nurture the young casts in each of our thirteen participating cities. I look forward to an exciting and, for some, life-changing year ahead".
The action is transferred from deserted island to deserted theatre. A group of schoolboys find themselves abandoned. With no adults around they start to make their own rules and create their own civilisation, before order breaks down and the story builds to an electrifying climax. Golding's legendary characters Ralph, Piggy, Jack and the boys will be brought to life with raw energy and emotional intensity.
Devised and directed by Olivier and Tony award winner Matthew Bourne, choreographed by Olivier nominated Scott Ambler and featuring set and costume design by Olivier Award-winner Lez Brotherston, music by Terry Davies, lighting design by Chris Davey and sound design by Paul Groothuis. Touring Directors are New Adventures principal dancers Adam Galbraith and Alan Vincent.
