Glasgow Doors Open Day Announce 2017 Theatre Venues

The annual Doors Open Days Festival offers people the chance to explore buildings in Glasgow that are not usually open to the public. The events at Doors Open Days are free, but some require advance booking. Theatre and arts centres participating in guided tours for Doors Open Days 2017, which takes place on 11-17th September, include:

National Theatre of Scotland

A unique chance to explore behind the scenes at Rockvilla, the National Theatre of Scotland's new facility and meet the team, with interactive tours of the building, intros to technical theatre, exhibits and a workshop.

King's Theatre

One of the finest remaining examples of Frank Matcham's eclectic mix of styles. The King's is a busy Working Theatre receiving large scale musicals, drama, dance and pantomime.

Theatre Royal

The Theatre Royal is managed by the Ambassadors Theatre Group and is the performance home to both Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet, and host to a variety of visiting performances. The theatre was transformed in 2014 following the dramatic extension of the foyer spaces.

Citizens Theatre

A unique opportunity to take a guided tour around this iconic theatre and hear about the vibrant history of its Gorbals home. Explore backstage areas and get up close to hidden gems under the stage.

Tramway

Explore 29 years of Tramway's history as an arts venue, with backstage tours, a drop-in workshop and the chance to delve into their archive.

Scottish Opera Headquarters

The former headquarters of the Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders in Scotland- now the administrative home of the Scottish Opera. Commissioned by IESIS in 1907, it has a richly decorated interior, marble staircases and a stunning series of staiNed Glass windows.

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

A chance to see behind the scenes at the world's 6th best performing arts institution. Come unveil the mystique to reveal the gritty soul and backbone of the creative industries; music, drama, dance, film and production.

Booking for theatre tours opens at 10am on August 23rd and details are available on the Glasgow Doors Open day website.
