Rose Theatre is owned and run by acclaimed international director and choreographer Peter Schaufuss who also owns Saint Stephens with the Ian McKellen Theatre and Ashton Hall, where he presented a new version of 'Hamlet' starring Sir Ian McKellen, that was one of the biggest hits of last year's Fringe festival.

"Running two amazing year-round venues has just become too much for me," he said. "I want to concentrate on transforming Saint Stephens into a world-class venue, my vision when i first saw the building in 2014, purchasing it in 2017. I am a creative person not a landlord - and that's what i have become by default.

"This is a unique opportunity to obtain one of the most significant buildings along Edinburgh's world-famous Rose Street in the historical New Town, I sincerely hope that it will be bought by another creative operator within the industry that can take the venue further forward."

Schaufuss, an Olivier, Evening Standard and Edinburgh Critic's Award-winning choreographer, director and widely recognised as one of the most talented male dancers on the international stage, bought the Rose Theatre in 2016, and spend over £1 million transforming it into a successful multi-stage venue.

The Grade B listed Rose Theatre is an end terraced stone and slate building that was built in 1912. The property was originally designed and built as a place of worship. The property obtained planning permission listed building consent to be converted into a Theatre/Arts/ Cultural Centre in 2017 after undergoing extensive renovations.

The property has five levels featuring a basement theatre and bar, the ground floor foyer with box office and theatre cafe, first floor cabaret bar, main theatre, and third floor rehearsal spaces and dressing rooms, with a self contained caretakers flat with stunning uninterrupted views of the castle.

The venue has a License (including a late 3am licence Friday and Saturday during the Fringe and Hogmanay) and has a proven record of accomplishment of attracting many successful national and international productions and Festivals.

The estate agent Rettie of Edinburgh are seeking offers of more than £3m. A three-bedroom apartment at 150 Rose Street Lane opposite the Rose Theatre stage door is also available by separate negotiation.
