Edinburgh Playhouse have released their jam packed programme for Autumn/Winter 2017.
Kicking things off from 19th-23rd September is Cilla - The Musical which is the new spectacular and heart-warming musical adaptation of the critically acclaimed hit ITV television series by Bafta Award winner, Jeff Pope. It tells the extraordinary story of the teenage girl from Liverpool whose teenage dreams of stardom lead to her becoming one of Britain's best-loved entertainers of all time.
From 3rd- 7th October Michael Harrison and David Ian present the Curve production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Tony Award®-winning (Best Musical, Best Original Score & Best Book of a Musical) masterpiece Sunset Boulevard, starring Ria Jones, who received standing ovations every night when performing the role at the London Coliseum, as Norma Desmond and Strictly Come Dancing's Danny Mac as Joe Gillis.
At the Edinburgh Playhouse from 30th October- 4th November Broadway's Tony Award® nominated Bring It On The Musical somersaults onto stage for its UK & European première to kick start its first ever UK tour! Dive into a high-octane thrill ride where the cutthroat world of competitive cheerleading meets high school politics and teenage romance. Written by a team including Tony Award® winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), Tony Award® winner Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q) and Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award® winner Tom Kitt (Next to Normal)
From 14th-18 November Will Young reprises his critically acclaimed performance of Emcee in Rufus Norris' production of Cabaret. Ever since winning the inaugural series of Pop Idol in 2002, Will Young has been one of the UK's most popular and successful music artists and holds the record for the fastest selling debut single in British chart history. Playing Sally Bowles will be musician, TV presenter and 2016 Strictly Come Dancing runner up Louise Redknapp.
28th November- 2nd December sees the Scottish premiere of Beautiful - The Carole King Musical which tells the inspiring true story of King's remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history.
Finishing up an incredible year at the Edinburgh Playhouse from 12th December- 7th January sees the return of Shrek The Musical. Based on the story and characters from the Oscar®-winning Dreamworks Animation film, this hilarious and spectacular production turns the world of fairytales upside down in an all-singing, all-dancing, must-see musical comedy.
