Eastleigh Film Festival Announces Further Programme Details - ROMEO AND JULIET and More

Organisers at The Point have announced the second wave of films to be screened at this year's Eastleigh Film Festival, taking place Monday 24th to Saturday 29th September.

The fifth annual festival will screen a total of 15 films at 11 venues, across six days, with a focus on cult, iconic and classic cinema. Artistic Director at The Point Sacha Lee said:

"We are delighted to return for a fifth year, screening great films in unique locations. Eastleigh Film Festival has a dedicated following and we can't wait to bring immersive experiences to film fans across the borough this September as we visit new venues and screen our best programme yet."

This year's festival will be headlined by three large-scale screenings at locations around Eastleigh. The Headline strand launches with Baz Lurhmann's spin on William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet, with organisers screening the film at Eastleigh Baptist Church, emulating the film's finale. Comedy-horror The Cabin in the Woods will be screened outside at Itchen Valley Country Park, before cult vampire flick The Lost Boys closes the festival on The Swan Shopping Centre Rooftop.

The festival celebrates actresses and directors in the industry with the new-for-2018 Strong Women in Film strand. Presented in partnership with Women's Institute Eastleigh Spitfires, the programme aims to highlight some of the talented people working in the industry during the centenary of 100 years of Suffrage.

The strand launches with Oscar-nominated drama Lady Bird, featuring a special Q&A with two industry professionals; followed by Little Women at Eastleigh Sewing Centre; and Quiffy's Hairdressers hosts Steel Magnolias.

EFF's popular With Dinner strand returns for two evenings of bespoke movie-going, with musical Chicago at the iconic The Concorde Club, and romantic drama Eat, Pray, Love at Steak and Spice. Both films are accompanied by a two-course meal.

In August the festival will announce its full programme, which features an event to mark the centenary of the First World War, and two acclaimed British films, screened as part of the Out in the Town strand.
