To celebrate 50 years since the King's Theatre Glasgow started its legendary panto tradition, First Family Entertainment are delighted to welcome back a firm favourite, Des Clarke, to star in Peter Pan. Also joining the cast are two up and coming Scottish stars; Scott Fletcher and Joanne McGuinness.
This will be Des Clarke's third consecutive year starring in the King's Christmas show with critics applauding his seamless transition between stand up and panto. Last year Wishee Washee's hi-jinks and one liners had the audience roaring with laughter. The mischief and hilarity is set to continue as the Capital FM presenter takes on the role of Starkey, one of the pirate motley crew. As previously announced Greg Mchugh will play Smee and Gavin Mitchell is the evil Captain Hook.
Des Clarke said: "You can't celebrate Christmas without a visit to the King's panto, so I'm thrilled to be invited to tread the boards once again. What makes it even more special is to be involved in the 50th anniversary celebrations. It's a privilege to follow in the footsteps of panto legends such as Stanley Baxter, Johnny Beattie and of course the late great Gerard Kelly.
"I'm looking forward to working with old pals and making some new ones. No doubt I'll be sporting those striped tights again but oh arr me hearties I'm looking forward to some pirate patter!"
River City star Scott Fletcher will be reaching new heights as Peter Pan. Scott, who plays loveable rogue Angus Lindsay in the Shieldinch soap, is no stranger to the King's panto having appeared in Babes in the Wood in 2001. He has also worked alongside Greg McHugh in the BBC's Gary: Tank Commander. Scott continued the military theme with a role in the National Theatre of Scotland's Black Watch.
Joanne McGuinness will take on the role of Wendy. Joanne has recently worked with the National Theatre of Scotland appearing in Dragon and Glasgow Girls. Other stage credits include Company, Broadway in the Bar, and Elegy for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens (Inside Out Productions). Joanne also appeared in the film The Wee Man (Carnaby International) and a short film Zombie Musical (Haphazard Media, Black Camel Pictures.)
James Haworth, General Manager at the King's Theatre Glasgow, said: "It is with great pleasure that the King's Theatre welcomes back Des Clarke. His comic timing has been a hit with both children and adults alike. This is set to be a very special production, with a mix of olds faces and new, to mark our golden anniversary milestone. I am confident this talented, all Scottish cast will be ship-shape for the maiden voyage of Peter Pan this Christmas."
Peter Pan will be flying into the King's Theatre tonight 6 December 2014.
