The Assembly Room's iconic Ballroom will be home to an incredible marriage of music and film this Edinburgh Festival Fringe as the world premiere of DUST, by critically-acclaimed trio The Melomaniacs, comes to Assembly this August.
Charting a journey across America, this nine-song performance piece mixes the live music of Mike Marlin (lyrics and vocals), Kim Murray (guitar) and Paul Silver (keys) with the arresting visuals of Scottish filmmaker Lee Archer and New York-based photographer Jean-Luc Fievet to produce this unrivalled multi-sensory experience. Created during the artists' travels across the US in 2017, DUST immerses the audience in the country's diverse cultures and landscapes, and serves up surround sound for the soul as we share the sights and sounds of their experience on the road.
The uninterrupted and beautifully cinematic live soundtrack will accompany film and photography that charts the band's journey from New York to Oregon to complete their final ensemble recording, taking in bustling Mid-Western cities, the sun-bleached vistas of Los Angeles and the arid Las Vegas desert along the way. Part-produced by Sylvia Massy, the legendary Oregon-based producer and engineer best known for her work with Johnny Cash, Prince, Tom Petty and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, DUST features American noir lyrics for the existentially challenged by critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter and Melomaniacs vocalist Mike Marlin. A truly spectacular Festival event, DUST brings the culture and soul of American noir to the Edinburgh Fringe and showcases the music-making process as we follow the band's journey from their very first steps on US soil through to this stunning live performance piece.
