Scottish actors Crawford Logan [Doctor Who (1963), Human, All Too Human (1999) and Outlander (2014)] and Scott Gilmour [28 Minutes Later (2008), Denied (2008) and HellBilly 58 (2009)] are performing David Sawer's The Lighthouse Keepers with Red Note Ensemble at this year's Lammermuir Festival. Taking place on 22 September at 2.30pm and 4.15pm in The Granary at Eastfield's lovely 18th century steading (a new space for the festival), The Lighthouse Keepers is based on the Theatre du Grand Guignol's 1897 play adapted by David Harrower, with music by David Sawer.

Portrayed in the manner of a radio play, The Lighthouse Keepers explores the relationship between father (Crawford) and son (Scott) who are trapped in the lighthouse. The son has been bitten by a dog and they cannot get outside for help. He can't turn on the turn on the light in the lighthouse and a ship is approaching. The tension and music unfolds and accumulates to a crescendo at the end. Using the original text, Red Note will perform David Sawer's music with an ensemble of nine musicians, contemporising the 19th century literature. For the performance Crawford and Scott read the play, side by side and using their bodies to create sound effects. The 'acting' is kept to a minimum to give audience a real sense of it being performance in a radio studio for on air broadcast.

I wonder if you might be interested in having Crawford and Scott on the show to perform a scene ahead of the two performance on 22 September?

In the depths of East Lothian's picturesque farmland, the Granary at Eastfield's lovely 18th century steading is an exciting new space for the festival. Red Note inaugurate it with two highly dramatic pieces by one of Britain's most original composers. The 1928 silent ?lm The Life and Death of 9413 is a pioneering work of avant-garde cinema for which David Sawer has composed a wonderfully atmospheric score. The Lighthouse Keepers is a terrifying story of a keeper and his son trapped in their lighthouse, portrayed in the manner of a radio play for two actors with highly coloured and tension filled music.
