Citizens Marks Temporary Move From Gorbals With Golden 50p Ticket Prize Draw Image

The Citizens Theatre will host its final 50p ticket sale at the Citizens Theatre before it moves out of its Gorbals home ahead of a landmark two-year redevelopment project and temporary move to Tramway.

From 10am on Saturday 7 April, 100 tickets for Long Day's Journey Into Night will be available for 50p at the Citizens Theatre Box Office. This will be Artistic Director Dominic Hill's final production before the £19.4m transformation of the iconic Glasgow venue gets underway.

To celebrate this occasion, one lucky winner will be drawn from the ranks of 50p ticket holders and will receive a golden 50p ticket that will grant them access to 50p tickets for Citizens Theatre productions at Tramway for an entire year, without having to join the queue.

The Box Office opens for our 50p ticket sale at 10am and availability is strictly limited to 100 tickets. Given high demand for this unique offer, customers are advised to join the queue early to avoid disappointment.

Tickets are available across 10 performances and can only be purchased in person at the theatre. Customers will be able to buy a maximum of two tickets per person which must be paid for in cash.

One of the greatest American dramas of the 20th century, Long Day's Journey Into Night is an epic tragedy which delves into the private lives and failings of the conflicted Tyrone family.

Due to the intensely personal nature of the play O'Neill refused for it to be performed in his own lifetime, though when it was finally staged in 1956, it would go on to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a Tony Award for Best Play.

Long Day's Journey Into Night is a co-production with HOME, Manchester and runs at the Citizens Theatre from 24 Jan - 10 Feb and at HOME, Manchester from 9 - 16 May.

Over 3,500 50p tickets have been sold since Dominic Hill revived the 50p ticket offer in his first season at the Citizens Theatre in 2012.

The 50p ticket offer honours the Citizens Theatre's historic reputation for offering world-class theatre at affordable prices. 50p tickets were first offered at the Citizens in 1976 when the theatre was under the leadership of Giles Havergal, Phillip Prowse and Robert David McDonald; renowned in the 70s and 80s for their innovative productions.

This innovative approach also encompassed a bold pricing structure with the belief that theatre should be accessible to all regardless of financial circumstance.
In addition to the sale on 7 April, tickets for Long Day's Journey Into Night are available by calling the Citizens Theatre Box Office on 0141 429 0022 or by visiting citz.co.uk. Tickets start from £2 concessions.
