I spend a lot of time at the Theatre Royal, but having my water bottle sniffed by security on the way in was a first for me! The pile of confiscated alcohol bottles by the door was the first indication that this was not going to be a tame evening.
Without knowing too much about Pam Ann's material beforehand, I had wondered how someone would manage to centre a 90-minute comedy show based around airline humour. Queen of the Sky is actually a little bit of a mix. Opening with some local humour Pam Ann gushes about how much she loves Glasgow, but it doesn't feel contrived. She uses anecdotes from previous tours to back up her statement that Glasgow audiences are just that little bit wilder than anywhere else!
Pam Ann is not for the easily offended. As she mentioned earlier in the show, Glasgow audiences are not easily shocked and that is one of her favourite things about performing here. Towards the end of the show she digresses slightly and tries for a bit of audience banter. It wasn't the strongest section of the evening but it was amusing enough.
Bursting onstage to high-energy disco and keeping that tempo up for the duration of the evening- Pam Ann was right up my street. The observations of the behaviour of both cabin crew and airline passengers are both witty and incredibly accurate. Her language is foul and the content is wickedly crude which makes for a highly entertaining evening of comedy.
Tonight's show was the last of a ten-week UK tour but I am very much looking forward to seeing what Pam Ann will come up with next!
