Based on the 2009 film, Nativity, this musical production first opened in the UK in 2017. Childhood friends Mr Madden and Mr Shakespeare become unlikely rivals when after graduating drama school they both becoming primary teachers producing the school nativity. Mr Shakespeare receives critical acclaim for his show whereas Mr Madden earns minus two stars for his effort. Entrusted with staging the nativity again, Mr Madden tells a white lie that Hollywood is coming to view his production and make the whole class famous.

Simon Lipkin plays the impossibly charismatic Mr Poppy, the mischievous teaching assistant. With a wonderful contrast to Scott Garnham's uptight Mr Madden, the two make for unlikely friends. Teamed with an incredible cast of children Nativity! The Musical is high-energy and pure joy from start to finish.

The songs featured are ones you'll be humming for days with particular highlights being "Nazareth" and "Sparkle and Shine". Ashleigh Gray is, as ever, a delight to watch. As Jennifer (Mr Maddens ex-girlfriend) she has a satisfying number of big belting songs throughout the production and makes them seem effortless.

The role of the Hollywood producer changes for the touring location and Glasgow has been treated to the much-loved Jane McCarry for the week who plays this no-nonsense character with a healthy dose of sass.

The script is packed with wit and prompts big laughs from kids and adults alike. With such a tremendous cast, beautiful staging and infectious music Nativity! The Musical is the epitome of a feel good show and I can't recommend it highly enough!

Nativity! The Musical is at the King's Theatre, Glasgow until Sunday 11th November.
