BABY DADDY Comes to Edinburgh Fringe 2018 Image

A painfully honest insight into the world of a young single mother, this autobiographical piece of theatre follows Ellie as she marries motherhood with the trials and tribulations of life in your early twenties and attempts to force herself into a perfect mummy mould. Making its Fringe debut following its premiere at Birmingham Rep in November 2017, this outstanding production is a fantastically frank tale of looking for answers in all the wrong places and facing up to your responsibilities when you bite off more than you can chew.

Convinced that the world doesn't see her family unit as complete, Ellie grapples with a quest to find a father for her child through a poignantly funny exploration of the realities of motherhood - from toe-curling tales of sex after childbirth to moving stories of dealing with expectations of family, societal perceptions of lone parents, and abortion. When her plans for creating a 'complete' family unit fail and the world seems to fall apart around her, Ellie is forced to re-evaluate her life and come to terms with a reality that perhaps isn't as bad as it first seemed.

Written and performed by Elinor Coleman, with live onstage music by Ricardo Rocha, Baby Daddy is a funny, rude and infectious musical account of life in your twenties with a baby in tow. Performed through a series of musical vignettes, mixing narrative, spoken word and song, the show invites audiences to experience the realities of single parenthood and reveals another side of motherhood.
