The Arches, Glasgow is thrilled to present a striking new theatre production that invites audiences to embark on a journey of discovery, one that imagines and recreates the historical and personal stories of Commonwealth sportswomen from across the world.

Created and performed by over twenty women living in Glasgow, Endurance considers the changing role of women in competitive sport, examining what it takes to be the best and why 'what' you represent matters.

This piece, presented for the first time during Festival 2014, has been developed under the Artistic Direction of Catrin Evans, following her recent success Dear Scotland for the National Theatre of Scotland show, and Grid Iron's promenade sell-out Edinburgh International Festival 2013 epic Leaving Planet Earth. The show has been developed with Jennifer Edgar and the creative team includes Janice Parker (Movement), Claire Halleran (Design), Scott Tynholm (Sound) and Lucy Gaizely (Creative Producer).

Endurance is part of The Arches' artistic showcase for the Glasgow 2014 Cultural programme, a nation-wide showcase of the best of Scottish culture alongside creative work from across the Commonwealth and a nationwide celebration of the Games, reaching its peak as Glasgow bursts into life at Games time. Other artists featured in the Arches programme include Robert Softley, Lou Prendergast, Drew Taylor, Rosana Cade, Random Accomplice and Surge Festival.

Catrin Evans, Artistic Director of Endurance, said, "As a collective of research artists inspired by these untold stories and experiences, The Women's Creative Company have travelled from theCommonwealth Archives at Stirling University to the edge of a diving board in Bermuda. We've flown through the sky with a long jumper from St Kitts and embarked on a treacherous month long boat journey to compete in the one hundred yard sprint. Searching for new clues, seeking out another woman whose story we'll tell."

Jackie Wylie, Artistic Director at The Arches, said, "In the summer that the world comes to Glasgow, The Arches is proud to present a celebration of brave live performance, featuring thought-provoking Scottish-based artists as they tackle themes that resonate throughout the global community.

"We are thrilled to be part of the official Glasgow 2014 Cultural programme. It's a landmark year for Glasgow and we could not be more excited to celebrate this with audiences old, new, local and international."
