Coming up on July 7, The Players Centre for Performing Arts Summer Camps is proud to have our campers perform the exciting, Caribbean-flavored musical Once on This Island, Jr. The students have been working for four weeks to put on this fully produced show, encapsulating their camp experience which included learning about theatre etiquette, auditioning, teamwork, friendship and enhancing their skills in voice, acting and dance.

Story: With its poignant story and catchy score, Once on This Island, Jr. is a highly original theatrical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's popular fairy tale, The Little Mermaid, and the Tony-nominated Broadway musical by the legendary writing team, Ahrens and Flaherty.

Through almost non-stop song and dance, this full-hearted musical tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest that will test the strength of her heart.

Led by director JaRed Walker, musical director Berry Ayers, choreography by Eric Berkel and Brian Finnerty and stage management by Sabrina McClenithan, these kids have been rehearsing hard to bring this colorful celebrating to fruition. The fun costumes by JaRed Walker, lighting design by Alyssa Goudy and tree designed by Ralph Nurmela, round out this beautiful production.

The Players is committed to their motto "no child is turned away for their inability to pay." Some campers utilize financial assistance and scholarships funded by grants and generous donors.
