The Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts at Ruth Eckerd Hall have announced their summer student performance will be the hit Broadway musical, Bye, Bye Birdie. To celebrate this announcement, the Murray Theatre at Ruth Eckerd Hall presents a showing of the classic movie, starring Janet Leigh and Dick Van Dyke, for one night only on Friday, June 9 at 7 pm. Tickets are on sale now.
Bye Bye Birdie is about an aspiring agent and song-writer Albert (Dick Van Dyke) who attempts to save his career and marry his girlfriend Rosie (Janet Leigh) by getting the biggest rock & roll star, Conrad Birdie (Jesse Pearson), of the 60s on the Ed Sullivan show to kiss a fan club girl.
The student production of the award-winning hit Broadway musical, presented by The Marcia P. Hoffman students will take place at the Capitol Theatre on Thursday, July 27 at 7 pm, Friday July 28 at 7 pm and Saturday July 29 at 2 pm and 7 pm. The performance will be directed by Jack Holloway with musical direction by Yohance Wicks and choreographed by Christopher Liddell. General admission tickets to see the movie Bye Bye Birdie priced at $10 include fun movie snacks and drinks and will be available at the Ruth Eckerd Hall Ticket Office, by calling 727.791.7400 or visiting www.RuthEckerdHall.com. The Ruth Eckerd Hall Ticket Office is open Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 6 pm and one hour prior to show time. Tickets are priced $5 for students and military with valid ID.

The Murray Theatre, located at Ruth Eckerd Hall, originally opened in 2003 as part of an education expansion of the Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts. Through the generous support of Ray and Nancy Murray, a state grant and Capital Campaign donors, a $1.5 million renovation was completed, which includes state-of-the-art lighting and sound and a one-of-a-kind hand-painted mural depicting music, theater and dance. The Murray Theatre offers affordable, accessible, high-quality experiences to audiences of all ages.
The Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts is one of the largest providers of arts education and outreach in the nation. Reaching more than 35,000 students annually and providing over 80,000 hours of high-caliber arts experiences with programs encompassing three distinct arts education divisions: presenting, community engagement and outreach and instruction in jazz, dance, drama, instrumental music, musical theater, voice and technical theater.
