It all begins on October 7 with the swashbuckling tale of Robin Hood by Greg Banks. A fresh look at the timeless classic. Enter Sherwood Forest with legendary hero Robin Hood! Wielding a bow and arrow, Robin and his band of merry men join forces to stand up for what's right. This swashbuckling tale of good and evil is full of action, trickery, disguises, swordfights, and plenty of help from the audience.
Through this full series of family shows, FST continues its mission to inspire children to open their minds and explore their imaginations. FST Director of Children's Theatre, Caroline Kaiser, speaks to the value of the Children's Theatre subscription series stating, "We strive to make this series a full well-rounded experience for every member of the family. These productions were chosen because they are accessible to families with all different age children and even grandparents that want to join in on the fun. We have preshow activities for the whole family to share in and learn about the production they are about to see. Then after the show, they get to meet and greet the cast, ask questions, and get autographs signed."
Following Robin Hood is a brand new rendition of everything that makes the holidays in Sarasota special, Deck The Halls: 'Tis the Season beginning on November 25. With all new songs and sketches, audiences should get ready to celebrate the holidays - Florida style - palm trees with decorations, swimming in the sea, sand snowmen, and more. 'Tis the season to deck the palms and join in on the fun at this interactive family show.
Next in the series is the inventive and highly theatrical adaptation, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe from the story by C.S. Lewis. Join Peter and Lucy on their travels to Narnia! The White Witch has cast a spell that makes it always winter and never Christmas. Peter and Lucy travel to Narnia and along the way meet Mr. Tumnus the faun, Aslan the Great Lion, and all the talking animals of the kingdom. Watch as they all courageously battle the forces of evil and discover that love is the deepest magic of all. This enchanting production begins on February 3.
Rounding out the season is The Boy Who Liked Pulling Hair and Other Winning Plays. Beginning on April 14, this wise, heartfelt, and often hilarious anthology of award-winning short plays highlights the most creative and imaginative writing from Elementary school students. Performed by a cast of professional actors, these authentic stories from the minds of children contain laughter, lessons, and learning for us all.
All shows of the Saturday Children's Theatre Series will play in Bowne's Lab Theatre. According to Kaiser, "It's so rewarding to produce theatre in Sarasota. Whether it is sharing classic tales like Robin Hood and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, celebrating the holidays in Florida in Deck the Halls: 'Tis the Season, or showcasing the creativity of young playwrights from around the world in The Boy Who Liked Pulling Hair and Other Winning Plays, our community of families is at the forefront of everything we do."

ABOUT FLORIDA Studio Theatre
Known as Sarasota's Contemporary Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Artist Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company then acquired the former Woman's Club building, becoming the first permanent venue. Shortly after Producing Artistic Director Richard Hopkins arrived, the building was purchased and renamed The Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American Theatre, presenting contemporary theatre in its five theatre venues: the Keating Theatre, the Gompertz Theatre, the Parisian style Goldstein Cabaret, the John C. Court Cabaret, and Bowne's Lab Theatre.
Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience. FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving, and dynamically changing world. As FST grows and expands, it continues to provide audiences with challenging, contemporary drama and innovative programs.
