Rise Above Performing Arts has announced their upcoming season which will include works by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Sondheim, and Lin-Manuel Miranda among others. Rise Above's mission is to bring exceptional talent with a focus on the education and development of the performing arts in the youth of the South Florida community. This will mark the company's fourth season!

"Based on the 2003 film of the same name written by Mike White, the musical follows Dewey Finn, an out-of-work rock singer and guitarist who pretends to be a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. After identifying the musical talent in his students, Dewey forms a band of fifth-graders, in an attempt to win the upcoming Battle of the Bands contest."

"Inspired by William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, the story is set in the Upper West Side neighborhood in New York City in the mid 1950s. The musical explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds. Tony, a former member of the Jets and best friend of the gang's leader, Riff, falls in love with Maria, the sister of Bernardo, the leader of the Sharks."
