Review: NO ONE IS FORGOTTEN at Urbanite Theatre

Urbanite Theatre presents "No One is Forgotten," by Winter Miller, a gripping and unsettling production that delves deep into the raw emotions of its characters. The play is set in a unique space with tiered seating, positioning the audience above the two prisoners, offering a visceral perspective into their world. As the narrative unfolds, the audience witnesses the complex emotions of the characters - oscillating between despair, fear, and a small glimmer of hope.

Casey Wortmann and Dekyi Ronge deliver powerful performances as Beng and Lali, the two captives in this gripping tale. Through their portrayal, the audience is confronted with the harrowing reality of being kidnapped and held against their will— a fear that is all too real for as many as 200 Americans per year.

As they navigate the challenges of captivity, the strength and resilience required to survive such trauma are laid bare for all to see.

While Wortmann and Ronge share the stage for much of the play, the moments when one is absent leave a haunting void, forcing the audience to grapple with the uncertainty of their fate. As the narrative unfolds, we are left hanging in suspense, with our minds racing to fill in the gaps with a mix of dread and anticipation. In the unresolved conclusion, we are left to ponder the unknown, fervently hoping that someone remains to carry forth their story and keep their memory alive.

Urbanite Theatre is scheduled to host a discussion on April 11th with Hostage US’s executive director Liz Cathcart and Sam Goodwin, author. The discussion will focus on the trauma and ordeal of surviving, particularly for former hostages seeking to reintegrate into their lives post-captivity.
