Review: COME FROM AWAY at Van Wezel

Do you ever go see a show and know you will be on your feet for a standing ovation the minute the last chord sounds? I have now seen Come From Away 7 times including last year at the Van Wezel and it simply never gets old. It is powerful. It stirs your soul. As a director, I long for the day to produce it at my theatre but until then, I will just continue to enjoy every time I have the privilege of watching it. Last night at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, audiences were treated to an unforgettable evening filled with warmth, humanity, and the power of community in one of my all-time favorite musicals, "Come From Away." This remarkable production, which has taken Broadway by storm since its debut in 2017, tells the true story of how the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, opened its arms to thousands of airline passengers stranded during the events of September 11, 2001. A poignant tale of kindness in the face of adversity, "Come From Away" is a celebration of humanity that resonates deeply in today’s world.
