In response to continuing requests, National Holiday Theatre presents encores of Alan Brasington's autobiographical The Poem Of My Life. Performances will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 24 and 25, at the STARLITE ROOM, 1001 Cocoanut Ave. (corner of 10th Street), Sarasota, FL, at 7:30pm. Tickets are available online at www.NationalHolidayTheatre.com for $17, with seating on a "first come, first seated" basis.
This work premiered in January, 2016, at the SaraSolo Festival, presented by Gotta Van Productions, which subsequently encored it at the Starlite Room in May.
As one reviewer stated, "The focus of this moving and funny one-man show is on the years leading to his discovery of a career path and his passions. He begins before birth, with the muffled voices he heard in the womb, and leads the audience through infancy, his grade and high school years, his relationship to fellow students and the teachers who either inspired or discouraged him, and the guidance counselor who did little to help him" and "It's also a loving and touching letter to his own mother."
Mr. Brasington, who recently moved to Sarasota, received a fellowship and a scholarship for classical training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He appeared with the APA Repertory Lyceum Theatre Broadway, in plays and musicals on Broadway and around the country, as well as in films and on television. He was on the New York Council of the Arts for three years. In an allied business, he provided props and costumes for stores and movies, including 1,200 1950s Chevy trucks for Old Navy stores. He records on the internet for Steinbeck Now.
On February 4, the SaraSolo Festival (www.SaraSolo.org) will present Mr. Brasington's latest work, Words From The Heart, about a boy who lives in a world that is alien to him and how he attempts to belong.
The National Holiday Theater was founded to support entertainments that celebrate heritage holidays as well as occasional other productions. It recently presented productions celebrating Halloween as well as several festivals that occur around the winter solstice (including Hanukkah, Christmas, and Festivus).
