Experience some of the world's most exquisite ballet dancers live with the Moscow Festival Ballet for performances of Romeo & Juliet and Carmenon Tuesday, February 27 at 8:00PM at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.
When he founded Moscow Festival Ballet in 1989, Sergei Radchenko -- a legendary principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet - sought to build an independent company that brought together the highest classical elements of the great Bolshoi & Kirov Ballets. The program features two full length ballet performances of Romeo & Juliet and Carmen. Carmen, a full-length ballet in one act, was initially banned by the Soviet hierarchy as "disrespectful" to the opera. It has since become, however, popular in the West and a "highly entertaining retelling" of Bizet's tale (Sanderson,allmusic.com). Romeo & Juliet, the full-length ballet with Tchaikovsky's beautiful score and choreography by Elena Radchenko, is the second part of the program.
Don't miss The Moscow Festival Ballet when they bring these classic stories of love, loss and heroism to life on the Van Wezel Stage!
