On April 3, 2025, the Chineke! Orchestra will make its Santa Barbara debut at The Granada Theatre as part of CAMA's 106th concert season. Founded to promote classical musicians from underrepresented communities, the ensemble will perform a program featuring works by Black composers, including Valerie Coleman's Seven O'Clock Shout and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's Symphony No. 1 in A Minor. Nigerian-Scottish trumpeter Aaron Azunda Akugbo will be the soloist for Haydn's Trumpet Concerto, accompanied by conductor Vimbayi Kaziboni. This concert marks a significant moment, coming nearly five years after the orchestra's originally scheduled debut was canceled due to the pandemic.
