The Sarah Raines Concert Series presents "All's Lehrer in Love and War," featuring the delightfully macabre tunes of satirical songwriter Tom Lehrer for a creepily comedic concert. The performers will be: Sarah Raines, vocalist; Yun Murphy, pianist; and Nick Curry, harpsichordist. This is a ticketed event, open to the public. The content will be morbid humor geared toward adults.
Tom Lehrer is a songwriting satirist famous tunes such as, "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park," and the first portion of the concert will focus his oddball love songs, like "Masochism Tango." The second portion of the show will feature the harpsichord, a precursor to today's piano. The old-fashioned sound will lend itself to the Halloween-inspired atmosphere of the concert. Finally, the last portion of the show will feature some of Lehrer's political songs written in the sixties, which are a darkly comedic look at the concerns of the time that
still relate to us today.

Sarah will include details about the music as well as anecdotes from her own life that connect to the program. As with all concerts in the series, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to charity. There will be a reception with refreshments immediately following the concert.

About the performers:
Sarah Raines is a classically-trained singer and comedic actress. She earned her bachelor of music in voice from NYU and has been performing ever since. In 2013, she was honored to be invited to the New York Music Theatre Festival as a supporting actress and music director of the original show The Dead Legend. She went on to produce and star in two performing tours, the Dolce Divas soprano duo and the Electric City Cabaret. Locally, she's been in Lompoc Civic Theatre's 2.0 and Nunsense. She was also recently seen at the Llangollen international choir festival with Santa Barbara's Quire of Voyces. Currently, she's singing in the chorus of Carmen with Opera Santa Barbara.

Born and raised in Taiwan, Yun Murphy comes from a musical family where both parents as well as both of her sisters play piano and sing. She started playing at age eight years and began formal lessons at 13. After finishing her B.S. in electrical engineering at Chung Yuan University she studied for 17 years under Professor David Saidenberg, a professional pianist and professor of music at Taiwan University. She established her own music school and taught for 28 years students aged 3 to adult. In 2001 she received her AMI Montessori diploma from the Montessori Institute of Denver. After marrying Jim Murphy, director of the Children's Montessori School of Lompoc, in 2007 she moved to the U.S. She has been the pianist for the Lompoc Valley Master Chorale, the Lompoc Pops Orchestra, various ensemble groups and currently teaches private piano lessons and is working at the Children's Montessori School.

Nick Curry is an amateur harpsichordist/pianist/organist, plus a variety of other musical instruments. He started teaching himself piano at the age of 12 and jcontinued self-taught through the age of 15. He's always been very involved in music at church. Finally, five years ago he realized his lifelong dream and built (from a kit) a Single Manual Flemish Harpsichord. At the same time he began studying harpsichord under the tutelage of Dr. Kacey Link DMA. Though he still keeps up with the piano and organ, his main instrument has become the harpsichord.
