The San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre is thrilled to present the hilarious comedy/ thriller THE 39 STEPS, adapted by Patrick Barlow from the book by John Buchan and the 1935 Alfred Hitchcock film of the same name. The play is a fast-paced whodunit that mixes the 1935 Hitchcock masterpiece with the juicy spy novel by Buchan and a dash of Monty Python comedy. The play's concept calls for the entirety of the adventure to be performed with a cast of only four. One actor plays the hero, Richard Hannay, an actress plays the three women with whom he has romantic entanglements, and two other actors play every other character in the show: heroes, villains, men, women, children and even the occasional inanimate object. Packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters, an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance, THE 39 STEPS is the perfect show for anyone who loves comedy and the magic of live theatre.
THE 39 STEPS is directed by Jody Hovland and features the talents of Tim Stewart, Billy Breed, Katie Worley Beck and Cameron Parker. The show runs March 30-April 15, Wednesdays-Sundays at 7 pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 pm. Tickets range in price from $20-$35 and may be purchased online at slorep.org or by calling (805) 786-2440.
