SBCC Theatre Group Presents THE SUICIDE, 3/11-3/20

By: Feb. 05, 2010

Santa Barbara City College Theatre Group will be presenting a student showcase production of The Suicide, a dark comedy written by Nikolai Erdman and translated by John Freedman.  The production is directed by Katie Laris and will take place beginning March 11th at the Interim Theatre of SBCC West Campus (800 block of Cliff Drive).

Performances are March 11th-13th and 16th-20th at 8PM, and March 14th at 2PM.  Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors, and $6 for students.  For tickets, call 805-965-5935.  There will be no late seating.

In Nikolai Erdman's dark farce, The Suicide, unlikely hero Semyon Semyonovich, longs to make a dramatic change in his life following a year of unemployment. His first idea--to make a living as a concert tuba player is dashed when he realizes he also needs a piano in order to tune his instrument. Cast back into despair, he determines to take his own life, blaming no one for his decision. As the news spreads quickly, a whole host of characters arrive hoping to take advantage of his action. But as they propel him enthusiastically forward towards his chosen path, Semyon begins to have doubts about the whole proposition.

The Suicide features: Ryan Baumann, Amber Bryce, Joseph Collement, Benjamin Couch, Taylor Dean, Cole Eubanks, Thomas Goldsmith, Claire Gordon-Harper, Jess Hager, Becky Jacks, Luke Jorgan Metherell, Nova Ropp, James Stenger, Trevor Thompson, John Trethart, Jessica Vasquez, and Paige Wilson.
