Fresh from Broadway, PCPA will be one of the first regional theatres in the nation to produce Mary Poppins, the magical high-flying family-musical that is perfect for this holiday season. It plays tonight, November 7 - December 22, 2013 in the newly renovated Marian Theatre.

Mary Poppins is the practically perfect nanny who helps us learn to take our medicine with a spoonful of sugar, find the silver lining in every situation, and realize that sometimes we should just use the winds of change to go fly a kite. Mary brings order to the Banks household, takes Jane and Michael out on magical adventures, and dispenses sage advice, such as, "anything can happen if you let it."
Director/Choreographer Michael Jenkinson adds to that line, "We are only restricted by the limitations we put on ourselves. If you want something, you can make it a reality, if you trust yourself and are open to all possibilities."Mary Poppins is full of fantasy and magic, and yes, Mary will fly! There will be huge dance numbers along with talking animals and dancing trees throughout this musical adventure.
The score features your favorite Poppins tunes including "A Spoonful of Sugar," "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," "Jolly Holiday," "Let's Go Fly a Kite," "Step in Time," and "Chim Chiminey."
The cast features Karin Hendricks as Mary Poppins, George Walker as Bert, Andrew Philpot* as George Banks, Elizabeth Stuart* as Winifred Banks, Kitty Balay* as Miss Lark/Mrs. Corry/Miss Andrew, Peter S. Hadres* as Admiral Boom/Park Keeper/Bank Chairman, and Erik Stein* as Von Hussler/Valentine. The Banks children are double cast. Sacha Carlson & Devin Orr play Michael Banks, Marisa Dinsmoor & Julia Galloway plays Jane Banks.
Under the direction and choreography of Michael Jenkinson the creative team includes Callum Morris, Musical Director; Dana Moran Williams, Scenic Designer; Judith A. Ryerson, Costume Designer; Jennifer 'Z' Zornow, Lighting Designer; Elisabeth Rebel, Sound Designer; Suzanne Tyler*, Production Stage Manager; Heather Patterson, Stage Manager.
The eight children's books by P.L. Travers, published from 1934 to 1988, first introduced us to the magical nanny who floated into the lives of the Bank's family at 17 Cherry Tree Lane. Mary Poppins' encounters with chimney sweeps and other characters were re-envisioned in the Walt Disney film in 1964 starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. The stage version was first presented in London's West End in 2004, then on Broadway in 2006 where it ran until March 2013. PCPA's production is a hybrid of the film and the books mixing original designs and choreography with the beloved story and songs.
