Summer tends to be a bit of a theatrical dead zone, especially in Santa Barbara when the Universities are on break, the weather is exquisite, and the beach is only a mile away. But one highlight of the summer theatre season is the Hollywood Fringe Festival, which features some of the weirdest, wildest theatre in the region. The Hollywood Fringe combines the gritty aesthetic of intimate, found-spaces theatre with the imaginative capacity of theatre-makers from all over Southern and Central California.
This June, Santa Barbara will be represented by Trollonymous Production's World Premiere of Zombie Clown Trump: An Apocalyptic Musical, a show that brings the farcical nature of our current political climate to a literal fever pitch. Pop music parody meets political pandemonium in this midnight-movie inspired performance.
After a zombie apocalypse, the President (or "Zombie Clown-in-Chief," as the creator describes him) is up for re-election, running against action-hero staple, Dwayne Johnson. Described as a protest by the Production Company, Zombie Clown Trump is a testimony of the power of free speech. Check out the cheek in Hollywood, at the OMR Theatre June 2, 8, 9, 16, 17, and 24th.
